1.) X+1, distribute the two outside the parenthesis, and combine like terms.
2.)  2a-16, once again distribute the -4 and the -2 outside the parenthesis into the parenthesis the ones next to it, and combine like terms.

7. 5x + 3 - 4x - 2
    x + 1

8. -12 + 4a - 2a - 4
    2a - 16
