Object Relational DataBase Management programs like MySql, PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Sybase and Microsoft can handle large (huge) databases. They're also beasts to configure, tune and deal with. SQLite is a simple database that can handle most "little" jobs, like an Android app. SQLite is good up to about 100K rows.
